Colourful UniSEX |
| |
AFTER THE DOOM AND GLOOM OF 2008-2009, men and women are becoming more adventurous and looking outside the staple shoe
colours of black and tan. Brightly-coloured footwear has been popping up everywhere lately, from the runways of Paris and Milan, to Brisbane’s
Vein Wear shoes. For their latest releases (above), Vein Wear has taken the colour wheel for a spin, splashing out with purple, grey, green, brown
and maroon.
“Colours have always been popular for us,” says Vein Wear designer/owner Chris McCallum. “They inject a certain light, adventuresome spirit into
a collection, and I found these new tones particularly attractive.”
Sometimes people can get caught up in worrying about what coloured shoes will go with, but Chris says it doesn’t need to be stressful, especially
with contrast being such a key fashion trend in recent seasons.
“Our new purple shoes will look great with all sorts of coloured jeans...black, white and denim, as well as black trousers, as the soles and laces
are black,” he explains. “Grey works well with blacks, blues, and greys, as well as light pink and mauve. Green shoes work with cream, tan, brown
and black; while maroon looks really striking against basic black or charcoal.’’
This season, catwalks globally were dotted with colour. Comme des Garcons brightened up sombre suiting with hard-to-miss lime green and
lolly-pink shoes; Junya Watanabe showcased dusty pink brogues with grey suits, and Tod’s served up a range of driving shoes in rich ochre and
olive green.
Vein Wear’s entire new colour range has been done in velvety-soft nubuck leather, perfect for the chilly winter months. “Nubuck looks and feels
a lot like suede but is actually better quality and lasts much longer than suede,” Chris explains.
Shoes from the new range will be priced at $249 each and are available at either Vein’s Valley or City boutiques, now. Pop instore or jump onto
VEINWEAR.COM and colour your sole this season. |

True Local: Vein Rated Ultimate in Brisbane |
| |
True Local have released their Ultimate Brisbane Guide. It features the Vein Shoe Store in the city which is quite cool since they only featured four stores in the whole of Brisbane for the Designer Style Shopping section. The other stores featured are La La Latrobe, Jean Brown Gallery and Easton Pearson.
Vein Wear
$$$$ = Treat Yourself
"This one is for the lads and ladies of Brisbane who are looking to style it up. Vein Wear is a local label bragging that all its shoes are individually designed, and then handcrafted by a 'master cobbler'. It's all about individuality here. The flagship store in Duncan St in the Valley was so popular the owners expanded into the city early in 2010. The shoes are stylish and will set you apart. Warning: it may provoke shoe envy in others." |

US Trendy: Behind The Seams Interview |
| |
"Fashion to me is both an aesthetic, a mood, a visual manifestation of who you are or who you want to be and also an overall presence. The accessories of fashion are like a tattoo that you can change every day. Fashion includes clothing, shoes, hair, make-up, grooming. It also includes the body, which is the core of fashion. It also includes attitude and language. So a person’s total fashion starts with a confident, positive attitude and a healthy fit body, well groomed, hair styled…then adds clothing, shoes and accessories in a congruous manner. Fashion should make you feel better." http://www.ustrendy.com/behind-the-seams/blog/9440/christopher-vein-mccallum/ |

Vein Review on Nouveau Skin |
| |
"Vein Wear is an Australian shoe label dedicated to bringing back luxury and craftsmanship to men's shoes by going back to the traditional methods of handmade shoe manufacturing. Dismayed by the degrading quality of mass produced shoes, designer Christopher McCallum constructed the brand around pure and excellent talent in his cobblers. Each pair of shoes passes through keen eyes and passionate hands that inspect and perfect every detail of the products from sketching to packaging. Rest assured that any pair you buy is well thought of and excellently crafted." KC, http://nouveauskin.blogspot.com/2010/07/vein-wear-mens-shoes.html |

The F Files: Happy Feet |
| |
"Grey skies are only just looming overhead but are you already over the doom and gloom? We hear you and so, thank heavens, does shoepreneur Chris McCallum of Vein Wear.
He’s taken the colour wheel for a spin in his latest collection of shoes for men not afraid to wear their style on their feet.
Inspired by European collections by Armani, Paul Smith, Issey Miyake and Commes des Garçons which all showed bright and wild footwear on the runway, Vein Wear has injected colours such as purple, green and maroon to its latest collection.
Shoes $249 from Vein Wear’s Valley or City stores and VeinWear.com." |

FourThousand - Vein Shoe Store Review |
| |
"In 2002 I purchased my first pair of Dunlop Volleys.
Wanting to stand out from the crowd, I took them home,
lay them on some newspaper and destroyed them with a
permanent pen and pink paint.
Once I realised that nothing could disguise the origin of
the shoes and that I was rocking the same look as about
20 million other people, I worked out why it's so hard to
put the words ‘original' and ‘footwear' together.
If you already knew that shoe design is not protected
under copyright or IP laws, you'll agree that the
philosophy behind Vein Store is refreshing. Each Vein shoe
is hand-sketched by Brisbane designer Christopher
McCallum and hand-made from nice smelling leather by
master craftspeople. Only 100 pairs of each style are ever
created, which means no conveyor belts, no worker
exploitation and no need to DIY."

Heads Over Heels - Brisbane News |

"The happy feet of 200 invited guests found their way to shop 25 in the Brisbane Arcade to attend the official opening of Vein Wear's new boutique. This is the second location for the local cult shoe label - a mark of success that proves eye-catching design and handmade quality is still cherished despite a market swamped by chain store mediocrity. While guests lusted after the latest collections, they celebrated with cocktails mixed by Bar Soma. One lucky man in particular now has cause to kick up his heels - congratulations to Jack Yu from Taiwan, winner of the 2010 Vein Wear Men's Footwear Competition. The inaugural contest attracted 38 entries from around the world." Francene Ridley. |

Vein Wear has unveiled its second footwear boutique in Brisbane’s prestigious Brisbane Arcade |
| |
Fast becoming a cult brand for men of style, Vein Wear has expanded its doors from Fortitude Valley and opened its second boutique in the heritage listed Brisbane Arcade.
In a time when most retailers are struggling with the thought of expansion, Vein Wear owner Chris McCallum has dived into the opportunity head first. “We have wanted to open a second boutique in the city for a while now because business is going well, but the problem was finding the perfect location,” explains McCallum. “There are two sides of this position which represent our brand perfectly: the Brisbane Arcade’s old world charm fits the traditional way we make our shoes, and Adelaide Street reflects the unique, modern edge to our designs.”

Lure Magazine - Men's Footwear |
| |
By Joshua Roberto Scachari - Men's Resident Fashion Editor at Lure Magazine:
FOOTWEAR: Shoes make an outfit, so if you have a pair that dates back to your dad's youth it's probably time to get rid of them. If you're going for a more sophisticated look, I suggest leather. A nice point or semi-square toe always does the trick.
In this department you really pay for quality. Gianni Barbato is a winner for me, but if the price tag is a little steep try Vein Wear, which does a great quality shoe at a good price point. On the other hand, if you're going for a more casual look you can pick up some great shoes from Swear London. They have a large variety of sneakers shaped like a leather sole shoe, which keeps the look edgy and dressed up. |

Shoespiration |
| |
Vein Store is hosted a night to celebrate Queensland's creative stars in TCB's gallery. All their displayed work was inspired by Vein Wear and Kitty Croquet shoes.
(Actually it was just an excuse to get together and have a drink. I can't believe it has been a year since our last soiree.)
There's really a lot to celebrate. The start of the Autumn fashion season, the new photo shoot by Damien Van der Vlist, Chris Worfold's interpretation of the shoot, Arthorse Jo's behind the scenes photography, the opening of the new Vein workshop and the store's new floor!

L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Parade |
| |
The scene was set on Tuesday 17 March in Melbourne for arguably the most exciting runway parade of the event. L'Oreal Paris Runway 3 featuring Aurelio Costarella, Gwendolynne, Jayson Brunsdon, ex-fellow TCBer Juli Grbac, Nicola Finetti, Nicolangela, su, and Leopold featuring Vein Wear shoes.
Leopold, one of Australia's best know menswear labels, debuted their new women's wear collection to much praise.
As humble footwear designers, Vein Wear continued our partnership with Leopold in the men's collection. The pictures from the parade are below (thank you to Six6 Photography).

Sunday Mail - Shoespiration Party |
| |
Shoespiration – Chris Cross
TCB Arcade,
Fortitude Valley
Brisbane’s Vein shoe designer Chris McCallum and hip artist-illustrator Chris Worfold flag-waved their co-hosted get-together as a Shoespiration. It was more of a social splash than a commercial push. The flashy McCallum footwear and graphic Worfold art had browsers crossing the arcade from the Vein Shoe Boutique to the Worfold Gallery and back.

From the Fashion pages... Get Hugh Jackman's style with simple layering for a laid-back cool. And of course, Vein Wear shoes.
I'm not sure when pants, a shirt and a jacket became known as "simple layering"...but I guess that's why I just do the shoes ;)

Alvin Manalo - Saint Augustine Academy Designer |
| |
There was once
an unemployed
designer named
Alvin, who liked to
flog printed tees and
jeans at weekend
markets. Turns out his
wares were pretty ace
and became a big hit.
Five years later, and
AJ's now fully fledged
fashion label, Saint
AugustineAcademy, is stocked all
overtheworld. Yay for him! He has a
pretty cool rock-star following too,
including Interpol, The Killers and
Bloc Party. So FHM Magazine thought they'd chuck
Alvin $1000 to deliver us instant credo.
His pick for shoes...Vein Wear Speed Stripe Zip Ankle Boot. Manalo says, "These boots have become my number-one wardrobe staple. They make a great everyday item."

Sunday Mail - Vein Store Client Party |
| |
Ken Lord of the Sunday Mail had this to say, "Chris McCallum is a leather craftsman who makes sizzling shoes, boots and other fancy footwear. His outlet in the slick TCB address is The Vein Store and his first year in business triggered a whoopee with stunning tucker, proper stuff to drink and heaps of fresh faces in cool clothes. Tyrone Noonan sang his songs (in swanky Vein boots), Chris blew out his candle and Smart State trade exec Gayle King clucked brightly about Chris's future overseas. Totally understandable when you scope his talent." ... see the full page on our blog. |
